Bridgett!! Thank you very much for taking the time to read and for this kind feedback. I bought two copies as gifts for some of the smartest people I know - we are so alike.
This looks like a great book, but also I love this review. It tells me so much about the book and its character and its importance to society and the historical record. Makes me interested in reading more book reviews from you.
Ah! I love your reviews, and every time I lay eyes on them they're encouragement to press on (because why is We Refuse my next audio book???). I can't wait to lean into this one.
I haven't seen this book mentioned anywhere, so thank you for putting this on my radar. I just signed up for the library wait list for the audiobook version! Your reflections on joy made me think about how Bettina Love talks about joy and blackness, and centering this in the classroom space. Thank you for this review!
I have praised “We Refuse” to family, friends and the internet. I have NEVER recommended a book so much until now. I believe every person should read this book in the following order: Black women, Black men and then everyone else. It’s an important read. Thank you for your review. I’ll use snippets of your review to compel people to read “We Refuse”.
Hi, thanks for your recommendation, I had made a note to order this book and just downloaded it to my Kindle. I have been blogging certain stories related to Black histories and stories of resistance, and have plans/ intentions to write many more of African American and Black resistors, such as Ida B. Wells, Josiah Henson, and likely Harriet Tubman, among others (likely Josephine Baker and other civil rights activists and leaders, as well). Please check out my new blog, Campfire Stories of Resistance & Resilience, and let me know what you think. I haven’t linked up my articles for the new one about the Children’s Crusade or added my main sources, as yet, or really edited if down to my satisfaction, but I expect to over the next few weeks. There’s also a story about the song “Strange Fruit” and its relevance to civil rights history and activism, too.
I appreciate the reminder and have added this book to my TBR list. I will definitely give copies as presents. Thank you for the inspiring review and recommendation - much appreciated!
Thank you! I just put this book on my Xmas gift list. Your review itself is a gift. So insightful!

A favorite of the year as well. I can't wait to underline the paperback (they better not change the cover!)

I’ve gotta read this one. Adding to my list!
I’ve been meaning to read this one!
