I watched the CBS interview in such disgust, and then I watched Coates’ interview on the Daily show and it made me feel so warm. I don’t think I’ve ever admire a man I never met so much. The word courageous doesn’t even feel fitting for him. Can’t wait to get a chance to read this book.
I’m glad you warned me about the CBS interview, I’ll go straight to the Daily Show. Given your writing and perspective I think you’ll find The Message really valuable. And heartening.
Thank you for this advance review of The Message. Ta-Nahesi Coates is coming to speak in Des Moines, Iowa this month (which I'm excited about) and I will get my copy there. But, after reading your review, I can't wait to read it. Truly enjoyed your personal story/experiences woven in, as well.
I love that this is showing up in my feed 56 days after you wrote it. I got to sit at his feet on 10/10 and listen to him read from the book. Will never ever forget the magic.
I loved reading this and look forward to reading the book. I have listened to a few podcast interviews about it including one with Coates and Trevor Noah that was great. He spoke of Palestine/Israel as a human problem, and said that once people start trying to justify what is happening, they are already on a different road. He says there is no "because" and "all children are our children", two things that get lost in this battle. I find it astonishing that any of his detractors actually read his book at all.
I was already staunchly pro Palestine before reading “The Message” and after reading it, I can say that this book does more to humanize Zionist than anything the insane pro genocide talking heads have said.
"I know there is more to do and to be done. I don’t think there’s more you can ask for from a writer, from a book, but to put you on notice that what you believed was incomplete, and now your task is to go fill in the rest."

Thank you for taking the time to read the review and respond. Ta-Nehisi is a great speaker & I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.
It was my pleasure. I enjoy your reviews. And I’m sure I will enjoy both Ta-Nehisi and the book.

I just heard this morning that he reads the audiobook version. I’m sure that was phenomenal but not as phenomenal as hearing him read in person!
